Bone Crossed (Mercy Thompson #4) 24, Oct

BONE CROSSED is the fourth novel of the Mercy Thompson series, which is one of my favorite urban fantasy series along with THE DRESDEN FILES and THE HOLLOWS series. However, whereas I have some issues with the latter two, I have to say the Patricia Briggs novels are consistently one of the most entertaining urban fantasy on the market today. The books aren't without flaws but they serve as mental comfort food when you just want to sit down and enjoy a story of a clever protagonist versus this weeks' monster. Mercy Thompson is a relatively weak superheroine with minor powers and that makes encounters with more dangerous supernaturals all the more intense.

Iron Kissed (Mercy Thompson #3) by Patricia Briggs Book Review 16, Aug

IRON KISSED is the third volume of the Mercy Thompson series about a Volkswagen auto-mechanic living in Washington State with her oddball collection of supernatural friends. Mercedes Thompson is a great character as she represents the best in what I consider to be "working class heroines." Characters who remain grounded enough in the quote-unquote real world that you can imagine them as real people in addition to their "normal" adventures.

Blood Bound (Mercy Thompson #2) 03, Aug

BLOOD BOUND is the sequel to Patricia Briggs' MOON CALLED and the second volume of the Mercy Thompson series. I've mentioned this is not a series I'm reading for the first time but, in fact, have read this series three or four times. It's not my favorite urban fantasy series, that remains THE DRESDEN FILES, but it works as mental comfort food. Whenever I need a short easy ready, I can always turn to the world of Mercedes and her band of weirdo friends.
