Anthony Ryan is responsible for one of my favorite books of all time, Blood Song. It's saying something that I feel like his new series, although different in tone, can stand along side it.

Draconis Memoria is a pulp steampunk adventure with epic stakes, great characters, and red dragons, blue dragons, green dragons, black dragons, and ... Let's just leave it at that. The Waking Fire followed by The Legion of Flame are a thrilling beginning/middle for what should be a landmark work in the genre. The steampunk elements are both compelling on their own merits and integral to the plot. The dragons/dragon blood/ dragon blood drinking super-humans deliver the goods on epic set pieces and thrilling action. It helps that one of the main characters is a verifiable bad ass and a spy. I could talk about these characters and this story all day but do yourself a favor and give The Waking Fire and The Legion of Flame a shot.

Michael McLendon is an actor living in NYC.

His favorite authors are Brandon Sanderson and Mark Lawrence.

If he's not reading, he's making faces in front of a mirror or watching something with swords and/or explosions.
