Oh, That Shotgun Sky (Songs of Sefate, #1.5)
21, Mar

Oh, That Shotgun Sky is the second novel I have read in Sarah Chorn’s The Songs of Sefate series. Like Of Honey and Wildfires, this book could also be considered a standalone, even though the two novels take place in the same world, and there are some characters that tied the two books together. It’s a dark world, full of pain and loss, but this is also a story about love.

A Testament of Steel (Instrument Of Omens #1)
01, Feb

Cinder Shade remembers nothing before he woke up in a well. Nothing of his massacred parents, his brother, his home, his disability…only fleeting glimpses of another life lived long ago, a life that couldn’t possibly have belonged to him. Compelled by a need to protect those who can’t protect themselves, Cinder enrolls at an academy to train to be a warrior. There, he is determined to not just make a place for himself, but to be the best in his class, a warrior capable of defeating even the elves and dwarfs, races deemed far superior to humans, for they have access to an inner power humans do not. Not content to accept the roll his human birthright has ascribed to him, Cinder trains harder and longer than any of his peers, unlocking mysteries within himself that allow him to succeed far beyond the limitations of his human condition.

This book is really unique and really amazing, an elaborate potpourri of diverse tropes united into a spectacular, mesmerizing work told by an expert storycrafter.

Of Honey and Wildfires (Songs of Sefate #1)

I found Of Honey and Wildfires by Sarah Chorn to be an enthralling novel that kept me engaged on so many levels. The prose is absolutely transcendent. I nearly wore out the highlighter function on my Kindle reader before I was through the second chapter. My two favorite highlighted phrases:

Interview With C.T. Phipps

Hi everyone, I'm ML Spencer from Booknest, and today I’m bringing you an interview with author C.T. Phipps, author of some truly woke and snarky fantasy and superhero fiction. His novel Lucifer's Star blew me away, and I still can't get his Weredeer novels out of my mind!

Decimus Fate and the Talisman of Dreams
11, May

Decimus Fate and the Talisman of Dreams is a new release by Peter Flannery, author of the best-selling epic, Battle Mage. This novel is a bit darker than the previous works I’ve read by this author, with characters that are more morally gray. I really enjoyed this one! The characters are well-drawn, complex, and sympathetic, and the plot is gripping.

Battle Mage

I believe there is something very special about Battle Mage by Peter Flannery. Very special.

This novel has enjoyed immense success, which is why I wanted to read it. I wanted to find out what the secret ingredient was that made thousands of fans give it such high praise. I could tell by the cover that it was on pointe with all the typical fantasy tropes. They’re right there in the name. “Battle.” Check. “Mage.” Check. Guy in armor holding a magical sword surrounded by flames. Check. And so the tropes continued into the interior. Underdog hero, dragons, possessed monsters out to take over the world. A mystery that goes unanswered until late in the novel and keeps the pages turning. A story structure that is the embodiment of the Hero’s Journey mapped out on paper.

Forged in Shadow

As the youngest son of the greatest smith of the fae, Curuthannor should be aspiring to the forge. Instead, he would rather wield a blade than craft one. When the high elf king commissions a powerful enchanted sword requiring iron found only in the subterranean goblin mines of the Shadow Realm, Curuthannor seizes the opportunity to earn a place in the smithy that doesn’t require a hammer. But when dark elf treachery interferes, the lives of his entire family could be at risk...for the high elf king is unmerciful and will not suffer disobedience.
