THE TERRAN PRIVATEER is the first novel of the DUCHY OF TERRA series by Glynn Stewart. I am already familiar with Glynn Stewart due to the fantastic STARSHIP'S MAGE series. That series was about magicians able to move starships through hyperspace. This is a more grounded series about the idea of Earth making First Contact with an expansionist alien race, only to be swiftly conquered. Which is quite the hook.
MESS EFFECT: A NITPICKERS GUIDE TO THE WORLD THAT FELL APART by Shamus Young (DM of the Rings) is a work that I picked up when I heard of his passing (RIP). I am a huge Mass Effect fan and an author so it seemed like an excellent book that would discuss the series from the perspective of its storytelling. Specifically, it's a discussion of how the once-beloved (and still beloved) series went off the rails in such a way that it got EA voted Worst Company of the Year. It also has a Mass Effect: Andromeda section.
BLADE RUNNER 2019: VOLUME THREE: HOME AGAIN, HOME AGAIN wraps up the complicated plot of Ash and her charge, Cleo, in a way that is satisfying as well as sets up more stories to be told in the dark rain-soaked future of Phillip K, Dick (and Ridley Scott's) universe. There's a lot of surprising twists and turns in this volume but I'm glad to say they wrap up most of the plot points so that those wanting a complete story could just stop here.
