“I love you,’ he whispered, and kissed my brow.‘Thorns and all.”
Sarah J. Maas did it again! That woman is a miracle maker, an evil genius who brutally torments the poor readers and guides them to the skies like a Valkyrie at the same time! I bow to her brilliance!
A Court of Thorns and Roses is a Beauty and the Beast retelling that includes faeries, curses, secrets and great romance! Feyre struggled to provide for her family who didn't seem to appreciate her efforts, until she killed a wolf who turned out not be a wolf but a fae and this kill cascaded a series of events. She was forced to live in the Spring Court under the protection of Tamlin, whose handsome face was half-covered by a mask, the result of a curse cast by a ruthless enemy. While a spreading blight threatens the Fairie Realms and the Mortal Lands and nightmarish creatures lurk in the darkness, Feyre has to find out her place in an ancient power puzzle without damning her soul in the process.
“We need hope, or else we cannot endure.”
I can't decide what I loved most about A Court of Thorns and Roses; the breathtaking descriptions, the solid world-building, the deep emotions, Tamlin's hotness, the agonizing anticipation for the most desired answers, Tamlin's love, the mystery, Tamlin's savage side, the heartbreaking desicions Feyre had to make, Tamlin's soft side? I think I'll pick all of them! I just couldn't put the book down until I finished it, Sarah knew how to keep you on the edge until all you could do was gasp for breath and pray the Lord she would be merciful!
The relationship between Tamlin and Feyre combined raw passion with the most tender love, it developed so naturally from this "You look... better than before. And you hair is... clean." to this "I threw myself into that fire, threw myself into it, into him, and let myself burn." It was their love that kept them going, it was love that led them to make the most devastating sacrifices. I suspect I am one of the few people who are not very fond of Rhysand (hey he's hot and alluring I can't deny that) and I honestly hope we will not face a love triangle in the next book but that's wishful thinking, right? I just think it is not necessary, A Court of Thorns and Roses was all about Tamlin and Feyre's epic love and then she'll want someone else?
While there weren't many other characters, they were all extremely interesting and I absolutely adored Lucien, his story brought me tears and his exchanges with Feyre were priceless!
Throne of Glass set the expectations of A Court of Thorns and Roses really high and I was not disappointed! While Sarah has the extraordinary ability to make me fall in love with all of her male characters, her talents extend way beyond that. Her work is solid, flawless, she makes getting lost in fantasy worlds inevitable and effortless! That's why everyone should go read her books like NOW.
