“If you wanted to, Safiya, you could bend and shape the world.”

Dear Susan Dennard,

I love you. Je t'aime. Σ'αγαπώ. Te quiero. Ti amo. Ich liebe dich.

You are the sunshine to my stormy day. The medicine to my flu. The butter to my bread. The Saturday to my hectic week. The oasis to my desert. The strawberry topping to my chocolate ice-cream. The lyrics to my music.

The answer to my prayers. For it was the work of Book Gods that sent you to my life. I am going to celebrate our acquaintance by sacrificing puppies composing a hymn painting your portrait nevermind I'll just dance.

“Shadowhunters: Looking Better in Black Than the Widows of our Enemies Since 1234.”

I read City of Bones for the first time 5 years ago. I still remember that day. The sun was shining, the birds were singing It was during my first semester in Law School and I had to study History of Law, which was a complete waste of time because seriously, who is ever going to ask me whether women in Byzantium could get a divorce? (In case you are wondering, they could only if the husband was impotent or possessed). Aaanyway, I wanted a break and I grabbed this beautiful book and started reading until I finished it, bleary-eyed, disoriented and obsessed. A typical day in Kat-verse.

“But she was her own champion now.”

Brutal and magnificent. A force of nature. How else can I describe a book about witches, demons and dark lords, fae queens and warriors, possessed princes, rebels and whores?

Queen of Shadows deserves more than 5 stars. Queen of Shadows rattles the stars.
